2019 Trends For Modern Bridesmaids

Bridesmaid trends are always changing. Every year there’s a new set of necklines, hues, and accessories to make your friends look their best. Choosing the perfect dresses can be pretty stressful though. Ideally, you want your bridesmaids to look perfect, but without taking the shine away from you. And you definitely want them to be in season. That’s why we’ve found out the 2019 trends for modern bridesmaids.

Coral dresses

‘Living coral’ is the ultimate spring/summer colour for your bridesmaid dresses. Selected by Pantone as the colour of the year 2019, it was sure to be a huge hit on the wedding market. Coral has been in fashion for a while, but ‘living coral’ is a specific red-orange version of the colour – an ‘animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone’.

The great thing about this colour is it compliments almost any skin tone. Match it with a bronzer to give your bridesmaids’ skin that sun-kissed glow and finish it off with peach lips. Of course, it’s going to work best on a perfect summer’s day, but it will still look great even if the heavens open.

Navy dresses

Navy is a colour that never goes out of style. It fits best with a traditional wedding theme, but it works all year round. It doesn’t matter if you’re getting married in the height of summer or over the Christmas holidays, Navy dresses will give your wedding party an elegant style.

One of the great things about such a dark and rich colour like Navy is that it creates a stunning contrast with a white wedding dress. It’s one of the most popular colours on Pinterest every year, and it just seems to be getting more and more popular.

Cornflower blue dresses

If Navy looks a bit too dark for your wedding party, then why not look at cornflower blue bridesmaids’ dresses. This cool blue with purple undertones is the favourite shade of blue for 2019. It fits into the pastel colour palette that has become so popular in the last couple of years, probably because it suits almost every skin tone. Like coral dresses, this is one of the best choices for an outdoor summer wedding. It also works great with a lot of different necklines and accessories.

Yellow dresses

Yellow is the ultimate summer colour. If you want to add some warmth to your wedding photos, you’ve got to go with yellow bridesmaids’ dresses. There’s a shade of yellow to suit every skin colour, but you have to choose carefully. The only problem with yellow is that it might attract insects if you’re outside on a hot day because you’ll look like a big sunflower. This is something that a lot of brides don’t think about and it can really ruin the day for your best friends.

Orange dresses

Orange isn’t the most obvious choice for a bridesmaid dress. In fact, it’s one of those colours that is shunned by the fashion world. But it can actually look pretty elegant if you choose wisely. We’d recommend going with burnt orange, tangerine, or pastel orange if you want to get it right. The reason it can sometimes look awful is when the orange is too bright. It can completely take the focus away from the bride. Oh, and you’ll still probably attract wasps and bees.

White dresses

A few years ago, it was seen as a huge no-no for anyone to wear a white dress to a wedding, except of course for the bride. The idea was that anyone else wearing a white dress was in competition with the bride. Now that’s changing. One of the coolest things about everyone wearing white is that it gives a real feeling of togetherness to the bridal party.

If you are going to go with white bridesmaids’ dresses, there are a few things you should consider. First, make sure the style of the dress is different. Choose a different neckline or length to make the dress contrast with the bride’s dress. Also, pick shades of white that work together. Don’t match an ivory white with a cool white.

Halterneck dresses

Ever since Meghan Markle wore that amazing Stella McCartney dress on her wedding day, we knew halterneck dresses would be huge. It’s not just for brides either. This is a style we’re seeing over and over again on bridesmaids. Not only does it make a dress look more expensive than it is, but it also flatters most body types. You’re going to have to get in there early though because everyone wants these dresses for their wedding.

Wrap dresses

The best thing about wrap dresses is that they can flatter any body style. You can buy multi-way wrap dresses that can be modified to suit each individual bridesmaid, which should save any arguments. Plus, they are becoming more and more popular in 2019. According to Brides Magazine, there’s been a 689% increase in search on Pinterest. On top of that, it’s the sort of versatile style that your brides will be able to wear again and again.

Cowl necklines

One of the biggest trends in 2018 was a call-back to the 90s. We saw more and more velvet, strappy heels, and all sort of other 90s trends coming back. And in 2019, the 90s are back again with the cowl neckline. Watch any wedding film from that era and you’ll see a room full of this classic style. It’s a draped neckline, which gives the appearance of a full bosom, without showing too much off.

Luxury dresses

One thing that is definitely become more and more popular are luxury dresses. This isn’t really about the colour or shape of the dress, but more about the high-quality fabrics and intricate details. This trend is ignoring the bride’s budget and spending all the money on the bridesmaids. Sure, this is super generous, but we don’t think your bridesmaid dresses should break the bank.

Hopefully, you’ve found a colour or style to suit your bridesmaids. If you think we’ve missed any of the big trends, let us know.
